Code.Org Partnership

ESC-20 Educational Specialist Susan Reeves is an Affiliate Trainer with Code.Org.

Code.Org underwrites teacher training in computer science throughout the Region. For more information or to schedule a training session for your K-5 teachers (minimum 15 teachers), contact Susan at (210) 370-5710 or susan.reeves@esc20.net.

Where Should I Start?

All teachers - create a free teacher account at Code Studio.

Elementary teachers with little to no experience - begin by taking the free Computer Science is FUNdamental course at ESC-20.

Middle school teachers with little to no experience in computer science or programming - consider taking the self-study course Teaching Computer Science Fundamentals at Code Studio to learn how you can utilize the materials in your classroom. In addition, Code.org has Computer Science in Algebra and Computer Science in Science curriculum available for your use at no charge.

Middle and high school teachers with experience - explore the AP Computer Science Principles curriculum (new HS Computer AP course curriculum). In addition, Exploring Computer Science curriculum is available. ECS is a 1 year college prep course that teaches problem solving, web design, programming, animation and robotics.

Beyond the Code Studio resources are a myriad of other companies, programming languages and activities that can be utilized to explore computer science principles. Check the tabs out above to find out more. Interested in a topic you don't see addressed? Let us know!

Computer Science at ESC-20

ESC-20 offers a variety of computer science and robotics trainings throughout the year, both at the Center and in school districts. Free Computer Science training for elementary teachers is provided in partnership with Code.org both at ESC-20 and throughout the region. See the Computer Science is FUNdamental box for additional information.

During the Winter of 2017 ESC-20 received a grant to join the WeTeach_CS collaborative effort to lead a cohort of teachers through Computer Science Certification. Resources and information for the WeTeach_CS collaborative is located on the orange tab above.
